In my mind, rye and gin have an almost farmstead appeal to them, as parts of the early American distilling tradition, and their ties to the American farm (rye, because so many farmers grew it, gin because the variety of flavors ties to the ingredients on hand). The name of this cocktail is also partially inspired by some writing I’m doing for a fantasy story, involving a fallen nobleman who’s trying to settle into the life of a farmhouse.
